Growth is vital to human life; the body and mind must grow to stay alive. As Catholics we believe that the soul also needs to grow to maturity in the life of grace just as the human body must grow through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. We believe the Sacrament of Confirmation is the supernatural equivalent of the growth process on the natural level. It builds on what was begun in Baptism and what was nourished in Holy Eucharist. It completes the process of initiation into the Christian community and it matures the soul for the work ahead.

We recommend that Confirmation classes begin in your child’s freshman year of high school. Students from both Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Therese Mission will study for their Confirmation for three years and will be confirmed in the spring of their junior year. We will, however, accept any student at any high school grade level and help prepare them for the sacrament of Confirmation.

We use a program that is published by Ascension Press called Chosen. Chosen is a 24-session program that prepares students intellectually and spiritually to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The program both catechizes and challenges teens to fully embrace a life in Christ. Chosen is a comprehensive learning experience centered around video and workbook lessons. The students are also expected to attended two retreats and perform service project for both our church and community.

Confirmation classes are held on the third Sunday of the month beginning with 10:00 AM Mass. After Mass, the students then adjourn to the LaMothe had where they receive a snack or quick breakfast. Class begins by 11:30 AM and ends at 1:00 PM.
